What is the best age to do a newborn photography session?

I prefer to photograph newborns between 5-10 days old, capturing that precious stage when they are still in their super sleepy, squishy, and curly state. This period is also ideal before baby acne typically sets in. While I can certainly photograph older newborns, the optimal time is within the first 10 days. 

While this is the optimal window, I'm more than happy to photograph babies a bit older as well. Just remember, the first 2 weeks is golden for those dreamy, curled-up poses.

For new parents, it's important not to feel discouraged if they didn't schedule with a newborn photographer during the second trimester. Life gets busy, and things can slip through the cracks. Having photos taken at a couple of weeks old isn't ideal, but it's also not the end of the world. I've had wonderfully sleepy newborns at 3 weeks old. As long as parents are open-minded about the outcome, a session can still be incredibly special. However, early booking is encouraged.
